The Ray Ward story

1961
Opens Continental Sports in Redhill, Surrey, selling a wide range of sports equipment and accessories.

Soon begins supplying shotgun cartridges for a local gun shop and Ray Ward Gunsmith is born.

1970
Uses extensive knowledge in importing and retailing guns to open a new outlet, supplying specialist fishing and shooting equipment including imported shotguns and firearms from Beretta, Browning and Ruger.

Expert shot

Ray Ward wins national shooting titles in disciplines such as Olympic skeet and Olympic trap. Becomes Chairman, then President of the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association, the sport’s UK governing body, where he remains the Life Vice-President.

Ray’s two sons soon follow in his footsteps with eldest son Andre managing Continental Sports and younger son John managing the RW Trap Club (his father’s pioneering, competitive clay pigeon shooting club).

1981
Ray retires, leaving John, now a well respected game shot and knowledgeable industry figure, to take over management of the Ray Ward Gunsmith business.

Shotgun showroom

1994
Opens a central London showroom at the heart of the English gun trade in the prestigious Cadogan Place in Knightsbridge.

Enhances a growing reputation as an expert in the field of Old English guns such as Purdey, Boss and Holland & Holland.

Shooting services
As gun sales increase the demand for exquisite shooting accessories rises.

An on-site gunsmith is added to handle repairs and servicing, followed by a much welcomed gun storage facility.

As the exclusive Knightsbridge premises become the Ray Ward Gunsmith Head Office and flagship store, the original Redhill outlet is closed.

Ray Ward Gunsmith, now a recognised luxury brand in its own right, is bought by JMH Lifestyle to complement their expanding stable of super-luxury brands.
